What Is NEM 3.0?

  • NEM (Net Energy Metering) is a billing program that enables homeowners to earn credits from the utility for power exported to the grid
  • NEM 3.0 is the latest version of the program in California which reduces the amount utilities are paying to homeowners for energy they produce
  • Under NEM 3.0, selling power back to the grid will no longer be a main source of savings for Californians going solar and batteries will be required on most systems to continue to save money

Who Is Affected by NEM 3.0?

  • Customers primarily serviced by:
    • Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E)
    • Southern California Edison (SCE)
    • San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E)
  • California system owners with interconnection applications dated after April 14th, 2023—applications dated before or on April 14, 2023, are still subject to approval by the utility
