Floating PV systems can be installed at large water reservoirs, detention basins, ponds, and fish ponds. The benefits are numerous including reduced land usage, slower water evaporation and reduced algae growth.
To achieve the goal of 20% renewable energy in 2025, Taiwan government has been actively promoting this application.
More Energy, Higher Efficiency
Compared to rooftop and ground mount systems, module temperatures on a floating PV system are generally lower, which can lead to more energy generation.
Power loss due to various module mismatches caused by partial shading, water movement, soiling, and thermal mismatch are unavoidable. By adjusting current and voltage of each individual module, SolarEdge can overcome mismatch and maximize power output at all times.
Bi-facial modules are commonly used on floating system to enable even more power and mitigate mismatch power losses from both sides of the modules.

Enhanced Safety
Since floating PV installations are placed on water, they are potentially more prone to safety hazards.
With our holistic, integrated safety features, SolarEdge meets the most rigorous safety standards.
- SafeDC™ – no high VDC output during installation or maintenance
- SolarEdge inverters comply with the UL1699B arc detection standard designed to mitigate the effects of some arc faults that may pose a risk of fire
Lower O&M Costs with Module-Level Monitoring
With floating PV systems, onsite monitoring and maintenance can be more complicated due to location and access issues that might require approach by boat.
SolarEdge’s module-level monitoring offers full control and visibility for remote troubleshooting, and cost saving maintenance.

What do system owners say?
Israel’s first floating system is a 270KW installation using the SolarEdge DC optimized solution. The system was established by Nofar Energy for the Jordan Valley Water Corporation.
